Virginia Beach, VA — May 17, 2024 — Virginia Wesleyan University proudly announces the appointment of Sam Jones as the new Head Men's Lacrosse Coach. Hailing from Annapolis, MD, and a graduate of Severna Park High School, Coach Jones brings a rich lacrosse pedigree and a distinguished career as a former standout player at the United States Naval Academy.

During his collegiate career at the Naval Academy, Coach Jones etched his name into the program's history books, ranking among the top ten in points scored (142) and caused turnovers (34). He distinguished himself as a dynamic player, earning recognition as the team's Most Outstanding Offensive Player three times. His stellar performance on the field earned him multiple All-Conference honors, and he was named to the Inside Lacrosse All-Freshmen team during his inaugural season.

Beyond his athletic achievements, Coach Jones exemplified leadership and dedication both on and off the lacrosse field. During his time at the Naval Academy Prep School, he was honored with the Inaugural 2nd Lt "Bull" Barrett Award, recognizing his outstanding hard work, unwavering dedication to the team, and inspiring leadership qualities.

Jones's journey with the Marlins began as a volunteer assistant coach while serving with distinction as a member of the United States Navy SEALs. In 2024, he joined the staff full-time through the SOCOM Warrior Care Fellowship Program.  His dedication to the sport and his unwavering commitment to excellence were evident from the start.

Coach Jones's appointment heralds an exciting new chapter for the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins Men's Lacrosse program.  As Head Coach, Jones aims to instill a culture of excellence, teamwork, and resilience within the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins Men's Lacrosse team. His experience as a decorated player and his background as a Navy SEAL will undoubtedly shape the team's ethos and drive its pursuit of success both on and off the field.
