The Virginia Wesleyan Marlins men's lacrosse team fell to 10–6 on the season following a 19–7 loss to Randolph-Macon (11–3, 5–2 ODAC) on Wednesday evening, April 15, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Marlins move to 4–5 in ODAC play after facing a strong conference opponent.
Virginia Wesleyan was led offensively by
Thomas Lewis IV and
Ben Andrews, who each recorded two goals.
Tyler Drane,
Carlton Benton Jr., and
Matthew Harris also added a goal apiece in the effort. The Marlins kept pace early in the contest but struggled to generate consistent offense as the game progressed.
Randolph-Macon and Virginia Wesleyan battled evenly throughout the first quarter, with both teams trading goals in a back-and-forth stretch. Andrews' man-up goal late in the period gave the Marlins a brief edge, but Randolph-Macon responded in the final minute to tie the game at 4–4 heading into the second quarter.
The Yellow Jackets took control in the second quarter, breaking a 5–5 tie with a dominant scoring run. Randolph-Macon tallied seven of the final eight goals of the half, building a 12–5 advantage at the break and shifting momentum decisively in its favor.
Virginia Wesleyan continued to compete in the third quarter, highlighted by a goal from Lewis IV, but was limited in scoring opportunities as Randolph-Macon extended its lead.
The Marlins added a fourth-quarter goal from Benton Jr., but Randolph-Macon maintained control down the stretch to secure the 19–7 victory.
The Virginia Wesleyan Marlins men's lacrosse team will return to action on Saturday, April 18, at 1:00 PM, traveling to face Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia in an ODAC matchup.
