Marlins Lose Tight Battle to Salisbury; Win Against Goucher

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Virginia Wesleyan University men's tennis team went 1-1 against Salisbury and a win over Goucher. 

Vs Salisbury University, 4-5

The Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team traveled to Salisbury, Maryland for another three-way dual match rotation. The matches were played indoors on 3 courts providing the usual dynamic for a dual match. First, the Marlins faced the host team Salisbury University. The Marlins started doubles strong, with Tudor Vlad and Alen Curovic winning third doubles with a score of 8-5, but lost at 1 doubles 4-8. In the deciding second doubles, Rafael and Carlos Rullan Zarraga were up 6-3 but failed to capitalize on the opportunity and lost in a close match tiebreaker 7-4

The Marlins entered singles trailing 1-2 and split the singles, winning at #3, #5, and #6, but losing at #2 and #4 in two sets. At #1 singles Felix Bevc was able to push the match into a deciding third set but fell short 3-6.

Vs Goucher University, 7-2
Next the Marlins faced Goucher University. The Marlins dominated the Gophers in doubles play, winning all three doubles. At #1 doubles, Felix Bevc and Ole Behrmann won 8-0 followed by fast wins at #2 and #3, with scores of 8-2 and 8-5 respectively. 
In singles play, VWU got quickly on the board with wins at #1 and #3 by Ole Behrmann and Alen Curovic respectively. These two singles wins allowed the Marlins to close the match at 5-0.
Singles play continued with a close loss by Francis Cabaddu at #2, with a score of 2-6, 6-7. The Marlins also secured wins at #4 by Tudor Vlad and #6 singles by Camden Perry to close out a marathon 10-hour competition day. 

Next, the men's and women's tennis teams will face Division 2 Chowan University in a scrimmage on Thursday, February 29th. The match is slated to begin at 2 pm at Everett Tennis Center.
