Marlins Go 2-0 in North Carolina Matches

Vs Piedmont University

Marlins men's tennis traveled to Misenheimer, NC to face host Pfeiffer University and Piedmont University in a 3 - way dual match rotation. The matches were played in an experimental format based on D1/D2 rules. The Marlins played in less than ideal weather conditions with low temperatures and gusty winds. 

The Marlins faced Piedmont University to begin the dual match. Felix Bevc and Ole Behrmann won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Due to losses at #2 and #3, the Marlins were unable to secure the doubles point. 

In singles, Bevc was first to finish, falling 3-6, 1-6 at the No. 1 spot but the Marlins were able to get the match tied at 2-2 with straight set wins by Rafael Rullan at No. 2 and Sebastien Muller at No. 6 singles.

At No. 3 singles Ole Behrmann won the first set and was trailing down 5-1 in the second set but turned the match around and won the second set in a tie breaker. At this point the Marlins were leading 3-2 with the two remaining matches in a third set. Carlos Rullan battled at No. 5 singles to clinch the team win with a 6-4 score in the third set. The remaining match at No. 4 singles was abandoned.

Vs Pfeiffer University

Next, the Marlins faced Pfeiffer University. The afternoon doubles started more favorably for the Marlins. Capturing all three doubles to secure the doubles point, the Marlins went into singles with a 1-0 lead. 

Continuing their dominance, the Marlins won in straight sets in the top three spots with Bevc at No. 1, Rafael Rullan at No. 2, and Muller at No. 3. The Marlins have clinched the win at 4-0 before Francis Cabaddu at No. 6 finished his match with a 6-1 6-1 victory. The remaining two matches came down to the wire as Tudor Vlad at No. 5 and Alen Curovic No. 4 were unable to secure individual wins, falling in very close third set tie breakers, 13-11 and 10-7 respectively. 

Sunday's match versus Chowan University is being rescheduled due to unfavorable weather conditions. The Marlins will continue competition with matches against host Salisbury University and Goucher College at 11am and 3pm respectively on Saturday, February 24.
