Marlins Dominate Regent University 67-41

The Virginia Wesleyan women's basketball team (3-2), dominated against the Royals of Regent Univerisity with a 67-41 win. Brianna Long led the way for Virginia Wesleyan with 17 points, shooting 7-for-16 from the field and 3-for-6 from the free thrown line; she recorded 14 rebounds, two assists, one block, and four steals. Bre Robinson scored 13 points, going 6-for-12 from the field, 0-for-3 from 3-point territory, and 2-for-3 from the free throw line; Robinson tallied five rebounds, one assist, three blocks, and four steals. Keagan Schwab earned 11 points, shooting 4-for-6 from the field and 3-for-3 from beyond the arc; Schwab made three rebounds, two blocks, and one steal. 

Brianna Long was first to score for the Marlins on a fast break at the start of the game. Schwab extended the lead to 5-0 with a three-pointer with 7:44 on the clock. Regent responded with a three-pointer for their first basket of the game. The Marlins went on an 11-5 scoring run to give them a 16-5 lead with less than 4 minutes remaining in the first quarter. The Marlins finished the first half with a 21-12 lead. 

Robinson and Blaylock scored back to back layups to start the second quarter, extending the lead to 25-12. The Marlin defense shut down the Royals, keeping them to only four points in the second quarter. Virginia Wesleyan led by a score of 30-16 going into halftime. 

The third quarter saw a fast paced scoring game from both teams in the first three minutes. Robinson's steal and assist to Gabrielle Athy followed by a 3-pointer by Jada Norman gave the Marlins momentum to break away to a 19 point lead at the end of the quarter by a score of 47-28. 

Regent closed Virginia Wesleyan's lead to 12 with a 7-2 scoring run in the first three minutes of the final quarter. VWU responded with a 9-0 run of their own to once again stretch their lead with 2:51 on the clock. VWU maintained the lead until the end of the game with the Marlin bench holding their own to close out the win. The Marlin bench was key to the convincing victory with 18 points.
