Both teams took the road Sunday, March 5th to face Marymount University at Virginia Highlands park. The Marlins battled through tough windy conditions, winning 6-3 on the men's side and 8-1 on the women's side.
In doubles, Maya Brown and Anna Rogers sped to a 8-0 victory at the #3 spot. The #1 team and #2 team won 8-4 and 8-3 respectively.
The women's team swept the #'s 1-5 singles spots, winning in straight sets. Christine Zalameda at #2 and Shannon Lewes at #4 refused to give up a single game, both winning with 6-0, 6-0 scores.
The men started off strong in doubles, winning with 8-4, 8-1, and 8-2 scores.
The top three singles matches were lost by the Marlins in straight sets, bringing the match to an even score of 3-3. Under pressure, Andreas Combos fought back from a 1-4 deficit to beat his opponent 7-5, 6-0 at #4. Camden Perry and Stefan Zrnic defeated their opponents with scores of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-1 respectively to edge the Marlins to a 6-3 win.
