Box Score The Virginia Wesleyan women's tennis falls short to Lynchburg losing 4-5 in conference play.
The Marlins struggled in doubles, losing all three matches. Alexa Brewster and Anna Rogers were closest to victory, coming up just short 6-8 against the Teefey sisters.
The top four Marlins singles players came out strong to make up for the 0-3 deficit after doubles. Christine Zalameda at No. 2 and Shannon Lewes at #4 were first to finish their singles matches, each dropping only three games to their Lynchburg opponents.
Alexa Brewster sealed a decisive 7-6 (2), 6-3 win in the No. 1 spot against Ellie Teefey to tie the match 3-3.
Anna Rogers dominated her opponent, Lara Karrass with a 6-3, 6-3 victory to edge the Marlins to a 4-3 lead.
Kristina Abrams fell to Grace Teefey in the No. 5 singles match to tie the match once again.
The match came down to the No. 6 singles match, where Maya Brown battled hard against Jordan Ottaviano in a three set thriller. Both men's and women's teams cheered on Brown court side as she rallied to 4-4 in an inspiring third set. Brown ultimately fell 4-6, 6-2, 4-6, which gave Lynchburg the final point of the contest.
Next up, the Marlins will face Virginia State University at home.
