Marlins Fight Through Tough Road Test at Mary Washington

The Virginia Wesleyan University women's tennis team showed resilience and determination despite a 7-0 final score against Mary Washington.

The Marlins opened the afternoon in doubles competition, where they looked to establish early momentum against a disciplined Eagles squad.

At No. 1 doubles, Jette Dammeier and Mikisha Thomas battled against a tough pairing that controlled the tempo early. While the final score didn't fall their way, the duo continued to work through points and stayed engaged throughout.

The No. 2 team of Jette Hafermann and Tuva Flink showed strong communication and effort at the net, facing an opponent that executed consistently. They remained composed and continued to compete for each point.

At No. 3 doubles, Zoe Vliegen and Lexi Hackbirth delivered Virginia Wesleyan's most competitive doubles performance of the day. The pair pushed their opponents throughout the match, keeping things close and showing the ability to generate opportunities with aggressive play and solid teamwork.

At No. 1 singles, Tuva Flink competed with resilience, extending rallies and staying competitive across both sets. Her ability to stay steady against a high-level opponent highlighted her fight at the top of the lineup.

Zoe Vliegen, playing at No. 2, showed aggressiveness and determination, continuing to swing freely and look for openings throughout her match.

At No. 3 singles, Sarah Reich faced a difficult opponent but remained focused and continued to compete point-by-point, gaining valuable experience against strong competition.

At No. 4, Jette Hafermann put together a solid effort, earning games in both sets and showing consistency from the baseline.

Lexi Hackbirth, at No. 5, displayed resilience, battling through long rallies and continuing to fight despite the challenging matchup.

Rounding out the lineup, Jette Dammeier competed at No. 6 singles and showed determination from start to finish, staying engaged and working through each game.
