Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team fell to the reigning NCAA National Champions the No. 1 Christopher Newport University Captains 2-1 on Wednesday evening at the Tassos Paphites Soccer Complex in Virginia Beach, VA.

FIRST HALF

• The teams went back and forth up and down the field trying to assert dominance in the game with the Captains taking early control with 13 shots in the first half. 
• The Marlins recorded six shots in the first half with one of those connecting with the back of the net as Alexis Miller challenged the Captain's keeper and pushed the ball between her legs and shot it into an empty net putting the Marlins on the scoreboard first. This goal by Miller was the first goal given up by Christopher Newport this season. 

SECOND HALF

• The teams continued the battle in the second half of the match and CNU found an equalizing goal in the 61st minute as a Captain corralled a loose ball in front of the goal and shot the ball over the head of the leaping Rachel Quigley.
• Virginia Wesleyan had an opportunity to take the lead on a penalty kick in the 78th minute by Miller but the Christopher Newport keeper saved her first shot and the rebound shot went over the top of the goal.
• The Captains scored the go-ahead goal in the 88th minute putting CNU up 2-1 to claim the win.

KEY STATS

• Alexis Miller tallied four shots in the game to lead the Marlins and scored the lone VWU goal.
• Rachel Quigley played all 90 minutes in goal for the Marlins making 10 saves in the match while giving up the pair of goals.
