VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team fell to the Royals of Eastern Mennonite University 63-51 on Tuesday evening at TowneBank Arena in Virginia Beach, VA.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The Marlins opened the scoring following a jumper from
Adaje Williams and led 5-2 after
Lenah Clements connected on a three pointer but the Royals knotted the score at five all with 6:45 left in the first quarter. VWU went on an 8-3 run taking a five-point lead, 13-8, with 3:47 on the clock, but EMU came back to even the score at 15 all and take a 19-15 lead as time expired in the opening quarter.
Virginia Wesleyan came back in the first three minutes to tie the score at 21 all (6:45) on a jumper by
Olivia Winslow, but Eastern Mennonite went on a 16-0 run over a four minute span taking a 37-21 lead. The Marlins added a layup from Williams at the two minute mark as the final score of the second quarter with teams heading into the break with the score sitting at 37-23.
VWU came out of the half on a 6-4 run pulling within 12 points, 41-29, by the seven minute mark. A minute later EMU had taken an 18-point lead, 49-31, after a quick 7-2 run but back to back three pointers from
Jada Norman pulled the Marlins back within 12, 49-37 (4:24). The Royals closed out the third quarter on a 6-0 run to lead 55-37 heading into the final 10 minute quarter.
EMU opened a 20-point lead, 58-38, by the 6:20 mark, but VWU was able to whittle it down to a 10-point deficit, 61-51, with 1:11 on the clock. The Royals added one more basket putting the final score at 63-51.
VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by
Adaje Williams with 18 points while
Lenah Clements added 14 points of her own. Both Williams and Clements tallied seven rebounds a piece.
EASTERN MENNONITE LEADERS
The Royals were led by Brii Redfearn with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Mya Hamlet added 11 points while Trinity Price contributed nine points and eight rebounds.
