Men's Tennis split doubleheader day at Salisbury

SALISBURY, Maryland - The Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team split their doubleheader on the road at Salisbury, MD. The Marlins defeated the Gophers of Goucher 7-2 on Saturday morning while falling to the Sea Gulls of Salisbury 7-2 in the afternoon.

  • The Marlins took the early lead winning two of the three doubles matches taking 2-1 lead into the singles rounds. 
  • Felix Bevc and Mitchell Perry won at No. 1 doubles 8-6, while Henry West and Timothy Tep won No. 2 doubles 8-3. 
  • Camden Perry and Francis Cabaddu fell at No. 3 doubles 8-3. 
  • In the singles round, VWU won flights one through four and the No. 6 bout, while dropping the No. 5 match.
  • Bevc took a 6-2, 6-1 decision over GC's Bran Kane at No. 1 singles, while Mitchell Perry won at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-0. 
  • Tep, playing at No. 3, won his match 6-2, 6-2, while Sai Challagundia won the No. 4 singles bout 6-4, 7-5. 
  • Dheeraj Koritala lost at No. 5 singles 6-4, 6-0, while Camden Perry ended the match with a Marlins win at No. 6, 6-0, 6-2.

INSIDE THE RESULTS

  • The Sea Gulls emerged from the doubles round with the lead sweeping all three doubles matches. 
  • Felix Bevc and Mitchell Perry at No. 1 doubles posed a problem for Brad Pappalardo and Gianluca Beaujon who only won by one game, 8-7.
  • Henry West and Timothy Tep nearly won No. 2 doubles as they fell 8-6 to SU's No.2 duo of Russell Willenborg and Luke McMullen. 
  • Camden Perry and Francis Cabaddu fell at No. 3 doubles 8-2. 
  • In the singles round, VWU won the top two flights, while Salisbury claimed the remaining match ups.
  • Felix Bevc won a tough match against the Sea Gulls top player, Brad Pappalardo, as Bevc claimed a 6-2, 7(4)-6 win at No. 1 singles.
  • Mitchell Perry, playing No. 2, won 6-3, 6-4 over Willenborg for VWU's first point.

The Marlins return to the courts again on Sunday, March 6, when they head to Danville, VA, to face the Cougars of Averett University. Match time is set for 2 PM.
