Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. - The No. 21 Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team defeated the Hornets from Shenandoah University 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon in a road match at Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium in Winchester, Va. Four different Marlins scored in the 4-1 victory over a solid Shenandoah program.

FIRST HALF
- Virginia Wesleyan wasted no time at all finding the back of the net as sophomore forward Alexis Miller (2) put the ball past the Hornet keeper 2:28 into the match. Junior Molly Gobble (1) played the ball forward to Miller for the assist.
- The Marlins increased their lead by a goal putting the score at 2-0 with 3:05 left in the first half, after Olivia Bryant (1) scored off the free kick with the assist from Tyler Wheeler (1) who played the ball into the box.
- The teams entered the break with the Marlins leading 2-0 on the scoreboard and 7-3 in the shots column.
SECOND HALF
- After the teams came out of the break there was about 30 minutes of play where the teams went back and forth up the field.
- Virginia Wesleyan ended the stalemate of the second half with a goal in the 76th from Lexi Soteriou (1) who kicked the ball in after a few shots were taken by her teammates off a corner.
- Shenandoah broke onto the scoreboard in the 81st minute to stave off the shutout putting the score at 3-1.
- VWU got the last word, so to speak, of the game when first year Sydney Queen (1) connected with the back of the net in the 87th minute as she sent a pass from Kalyn Byrd into the goal giving the Marlins a 4-1 lead for the win.

No. 21 Virginia Wesleyan is back in action on Saturday afternoon when they return home to the Tassos Paphites Soccer Complex to host Hollins University for Homecoming weekend. Kick off between the Marlins and Hollins is set for 1 PM.
