Shenandoah got on the scoreboard first with a three from the corner 40 seconds into the contest. The Marlins countered with a 5-0 run off a pair of free throws from
Celeste Rucker and a long three from
Jada Norman to lead 5-3 at the eight minute mark. The Hornets stung back scoring 10 points to close out the first quarter with a 15-8 lead.
Nat Collier scored a three pointer to put VWU at eight points.
The Marlins were held to just 10 points in the second quarter as the Hornets opened up a 20-point lead and went into halftime with a 39-18 advantage.
Shenandoah maintained their 20 point advantage throughout out the third quarter and ended the period with a 31 point lead, 62-31. Nine of the 13 VWU points came off of free throws.
The Marlins scored 12 points in the final quarter of play. VWU connected on five layups and a pair of free throws as the Hornets claimed the victory, 77-43.
VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by
Adaje Williams with 11 points while
Celeste Rucker contributed nine points.
Jessica Jennings led the team with seven rebounds.
SHENANDOAH LEADERS
The Hornets were led by Olivia Weinel with 20 points while Ragan Johnson added 13 points and eight rebounds.
