The Marlins found the scoreboard first off a basket by
Adaje Williams a minute into the game. After knotting the score at four all the Royals went on a 9-0 run taking a 13-4 lead that they held until the 2:56 mark when
Bianca Atkinson scored a jumper in the paint. Following Atkinson's basket the Marlins scored six more points to close the opening quarter while the Royals added nine of their own to take a 10-point lead, 22-12 into the second quarter.
Eastern Mennonite held Virginia Wesleyan to just eight points in the second quarter as the Royals took a 20-point advantage into the halftime break.
After coming out of the break, VWU outscored EMU 21-14 in the third quarter cutting the Royals lead to 13 points. All of
Jessica Jennings points for the game came in the third quarter as she put up three three-pointers and connected on a free throw for 10 of VWU's 21 points.
The Marlins continued to chip away at the Royals lead and found themselves trailing by eight points, 56-48, following a three pointer by
Jada Norman with six minutes remaining in the game. Eastern Mennonite kicked things into gear the final six minutes of the game scoring 13 points while only allowing Virginia Wesleyan to add five points to their total as the Royals clinched the win 69-53.
VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by Adaje WIlliams with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Jessica Jennings joined Williams in double digits with 10 points.
EASTERN MENNONITE LEADERS
The Royals were led by Constance Komara with 17 points while Laila Glymph added 14 and Claiborne Poston put up 11. Trinity Price led the Royals in rebounds with 10.
