Marlin Field Hockey versus Roanoke halted by lightening

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team's match against the Maroons of Roanoke College was ruled a no contest after lightening delays forced the contest to end without reaching the complete game requirements on Friday afternoon in ODAC competition at Birdsong Field in Virginia Beach, VA.

FIRST QUARTER

  • Roanoke controlled the ball most of the first quarter and put four goals on the scoreboard as a result to lead 4-0 at the beginning of the second quarter.

SECOND QUARTER

  • The teams had played five minutes of the second quarter when the contest was paused for a lightening delay that lasted an hour and 36 minutes (3:26 PM - 5:02 PM). 
  • Upon the return to play, Roanoke added two more goals to its total putting the score at 6-0 as the teams headed into a shortened halftime.

THIRD QUARTER

  • After three minutes of play in the third quarter the game was again delayed for lightening with 11:38 remaining in the third period. 
  • After a total of three hours worth of rain/lightening delays the game was called without either team being declared a winner.
UP NEXT

The field hockey team returns to action again on Sunday, April 11, when they travel Bridgewater, VA to face the Eagles of Bridgewater College at 1 PM.
