Marlins Fall 1-0 in Hard-Fought Battle Against Randolph-Macon

The Virginia Wesleyan field hockey team (5-10, 2-5 ODAC) came up just short in a 1-0 defeat to Randolph-Macon (10-6, 4-3) on Wednesday evening in Virginia Beach.

The lone goal of the match came early, as Randolph-Macon  scored in the 13th minute to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 advantage that held for the remainder of the contest. Despite the early setback, the Marlins responded with strong pressure on both sides of the ball.

Virginia Wesleyan matched Randolph-Macon with 10 total shots, including five on goal, and held a 6-3 edge in penalty corners. The Marlins' defense tightened after the opening period, led by Regan Wells, Ava Stauch, and goalkeeper DJ Holsclaw, who made three saves to keep VWU within striking distance. Both teams played a physical match, combining for 58 fouls and four cards.

With the loss, Virginia Wesleyan moves to 5-10 overall and 2-5 in ODAC play as they look to regroup heading into their next matchup.
