VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan men's and women's track and field teams hosted the inaugural Betty S. Rogers Track and Field Meet in Virginia Beach, VA. The women's athletes claimed 13 top-5 finishes while the men's athletes claimed 14.
MEET INFORMATION
The meet was the first meet ever hosted at the Betty S. Rogers Track and Field Complex in Virginia Beach, VA. All times and marks on the day became facility records for future athletes to chase.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
The day was highlighted by Geni Roberts with a pair of first place finishes in the long and triple jump. His mark of 6.96M in the long jump set a new program record coming in .10M farther than Ethan Fowlkes' jump at the 2014 Colonial Relays. Roberts also claimed first in the triple jump with a mark of 14.35M, only .13M from tying the program record of 14.48M held by Fowlkes at the 2014 Aggie Invitational.
Jaylyn Lane took second in both the women's 200M and 400M dash races finishing in 26.71 and 1:03.05 respectively. Lane also took second in the women's long jump with a distance of 5.08M, just ,26M from matching the program mark.
Shirell Washington claimed third in the women's triple jump with a mark of 10.76M while also finishing the 100M hurdles in 15.93 seconds to claim second place.
CJ Govan had two fourth place finishes in the men's shot put and hammer throws and claimed sixth in discus. Govan's marks were 12.79M in shot, 37.18M in hammer, and 36.15M in discus.
VWU's Landry Moffo claimed second in the 110M hurdles with his time of 15.43. He also finished 13th in the men's 200M dash.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to the track next weekend when they travel to Greensboro, NC to compete at NC A&T on Saturday, April 10.

Cameia Alexander thanked the numerous donors who helped sponor the purchase of the 80 hurdles needed to help host the event.
The six VWU Track & Field seniors were honored during the event.
And the Marlin team successfully held their first outdoor track and field event at their home complex.
