The Virginia Wesleyan University men's track and field team turned in a strong all-around performance on Senior day, highlighted by multiple event wins, personal records, and all-time program marks.
At the meet, the Virginia Wesleyan University men's track and field program honored its seven-member senior class, including: Ella Clingenpeel, Anisah Kersey, Lyric Hoggard, Jordan Hall, Opeyemi Kareem-Ojo, Jerry Watson, and Ryan Koval.
On the track, senior Jordan Hall led the way with a standout day in the sprints. After qualifying for the finals in the 100 meters, Hall placed third overall with a personal-best time of 10.92, moving into fourth all-time in program history. He followed that up with another PR in the 200 meters, finishing second in 22.23. Sophomore Jasha Brewington also impressed, qualifying for the 100-meter final and placing fifth with a personal-best 11.18, good for eighth all-time at Virginia Wesleyan. While adding a PR in the 200 meters with a fourth-place finish (22.50). Wataru Nakano added personal-best performances in both the 200 (24.32) and 400 meters (55.53).
In the hurdles, Javon Hills delivered one of the top performances of the meet, capturing the 400-meter hurdles title with a winning time of 55.31. In the distance events, Fisher Stone notched a personal-best time of 4:30.74 in the 1500 meters, while the duo of Casey Black and Ryan Koval shined in the 5000 meters. Black finished second overall with a PR time of 16:18.98, and Koval followed in fourth with a personal-best 16:37.09.
The Marlins were equally strong in the field events, picking up two event victories and several top finishes. Da'Quan Smith claimed the long jump title with a personal-best leap of 6.68 meters, while also placing fourth in the triple jump. Jordan Fielder turned in an impressive day as well, earning a win in the triple jump with a PR mark of 14.31 meters and adding a third-place, personal-best performance in the long jump that ranks eighth all-time in program history.
In the throwing events, Malik Williams recorded a personal-best throw of 34.20 meters in the hammer, moving into seventh all-time, while also competing in the javelin and shot put. Opeyemi Kareem-Ojo posted a personal-best mark of 12.28 meters in the shot put, ranking eighth all-time, and added a fifth-place finish in the javelin.
