Marlins Take Seventh, Claim Two Titles at ODAC Outdoor Championships

The Virginia Wesleyan University Men's Track and Field team placed seventh overall with 32 points at the ODAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Highlighted by two ODAC Championships from Jordan Hall and Jordan Fielder

Jordan Hall JumpsThe Marlins were highlighted by a pair of conference champions in the horizontal jumps. Senior Jordan Hall claimed the ODAC title in the long jump with a mark of 7.21m, earning 10 points and moving to No. 14 nationally in Division III. Junior Jordan Fielder matched that performance in the triple jump, winning the event with a personal-best 14.59m, a mark that ranks No. 12 nationally, and added another 10 points to the team total.

Virginia Wesleyan showed depth in both jump events. In the long jump, Fielder placed 17th, followed by freshman AJ Howard in 22nd and junior Da'Quan Smith in 23rd. In the triple jump, Smith scored with a fifth-place finish at 13.37m to add four points, while Howard placed 10th with a mark of 12.88m.

Hall also made an impact on the track, competing in both sprint events. He advanced through the prelims of the 100m with a 10.87 and went on to place eighth in the final (10.98) to score a point. In the 200m, Hall qualified with a 22.36 before running a personal-best 22.20 in the final to finish eighth and add another point.

In the hurdles, sophomore Jasha Brewington competed in the 110m hurdles, finishing 13th in the prelims with a time of 16.24. Junior Javon Hills advanced to the final of the 400m hurdles with a 55.23 in prelims and placed eighth in the final (59.26) to score a point.

The Marlins added points in the relay, as the 4x100m team of Da'Quan Smith, Jordan Hall, Javon Hills, and Jasha Brewington placed fifth with a season-best time of 42.15, contributing four points.

In the distance events, senior Jerry Watson scored with an eighth-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase, running a personal-best 10:24.11 to add a point. Sophomore Casey Black also posted a personal-best in the 10,000m, finishing 13th in 34:11.41.

Virginia Wesleyan's throws group saw multiple competitors in action. Senior Opeyemi Kareem-Ojo led the way with an 11th-place finish in the discus (36.00m) and also competed in the javelin (15th, 32.43m) and shot put (23rd, 10.53m). Freshman Will Hepburn placed 16th in the discus with a throw of 33.61m. Junior Malik Williams competed in both the hammer throw and javelin, placing 11th in the hammer (38.03m) and 20th in the javelin with a season-best 27.28m.
