Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team fell to the Vixens of Sweet Briar College in double overtime 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon in ODAC competition at Birdsong Field in Virginia Beach, VA.

FIRST QUARTER
- Sweet Briar got on the scoreboard first 2:16 seconds into the match taking the early 1-0 lead.
- The Marlins managed to get seven shots off but could not connect with the back of the goal as the teams went into the second quarter SBC leading 1-0.
SECOND QUARTER
- The Marlins got off another four shots in the second quarter while holding the Vixens to just two as the teams went into half with the score still 1-0.
THIRD QUARTER
- Virginia Wesleyan came out of the break with a fire and knotted the score at one all three minutes into the resumption of play. The Marlins goal was scored by Raquel Kelly of the pass from Hayden Thornbrugh.
- The Marlins scored again six minutes later as Ryan Westpfahl connected with the back of the goal again from a pass from Thornbrugh to give VWU a 2-1 lead.
- VWU held SBC off the board the remainder of the third and went into the fourth with their 2-1 advantage.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Sweet Briar found the tying goal with just over four minutes left in regulation and neither team broke the tie in the final minutes of the game forcing overtime action.
OVERTIME
- The teams went scoreless through the first overtime period despite SBC taking three shots and VWU two.
- Twenty-one seconds into second overtime the Vixens found the go-ahead goal to win the sudden victory OT period 3-2.

The field hockey teams season comes to a conclusion with the win over the Vixens. The Marlins will return to action this fall for the 2021-22 athletic season.
