DANVILLE, Virginia -  The Virginia Wesleyan University women's tennis team dropped a heartbreaking 5-4 decision to Averett University on Sunday afternoon in Danville.  With the match knotted at 4-4, sophomore Alexa Brewster dropped a decisive 3rd set to Averett's Louise Hovhammar, giving the Cougars the win over the Marlins in a 4-hour thriller.

Inside the Results:

• The Marlins captured the top two doubles spots.

• Alexa Brewster and Audrey Bally earned their first win on the season at #1 doubles as they took down Louise Hovhammer and Eleanor Crane, 8-6

• Christine Zalameda and Anna Rogers picked up their 2nd win in as many days by defeating Paula Ryhsen and Alejandra Garcia, 8-6

• Alexa Brewster took the first set at #1 singles in a tiebreaker before falling to Hovhammar 6-7 (6), 6-3, 6-4.  Brewster was down 1-4 in the 3rd set before clawing her way back, leveling the set at 4-4.  The last two games each went multiple deuces with Hovhammar edging Brewster 6-4.

• Christine Zalameda went 2-0 on the season at #2 singles by defeating Eleanor Crane 6-2, 6-3.  Zalameda dropped the first two games of the first set before reeling off 6 straight games on her way to a straight set decision.  

• Audrey Bally came back from one set down and pushed the team scoring to 4-4 when she outlasted Inka Zeilstra 4-6, 7-6 (7), 6-3.  Bally fought off several match points in the 2nd set.

VWU women's tennis travels to Buena Vista, VA next Friday to take on Southern Virginia University.  The Marlin's edged SVU last season 5-4 in their final match of the season.  Match time is set for 3 PM.
