Box Score BUENA VISTA, Virginia - Virginia Wesleyan University women's tennis team dropped a closely contested 6-3 decision to Southern Virginia University in Buena Vista Friday evening. With the Marlins down 3-0 after almost 2 hours of doubles play, the Marlins fought back taking #1, #3 and #4 singles. Southern Virginia held on at #2 and #5 singles for the 6-3 win.

The Marlins fell 8-5 and 8-7 respectively at the top two doubles spots.
Freshmen Shannon Lewes and Sophia Bibbo fought hard but came up short at #3 doubles 8-4.
Shannon Lewes came out strong at #5 singles going up 6-0, 5-0 over Danielle Behunin before closing out the match 6-0, 6-1 for her 2nd win in three tries at #5.
Anna Rogers also jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first set at #4 against Hannah Smith but was edged 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Alexa Brewster pulled off a dramatic comeback at #1 singles defeating SVU's Lindsay Brown 5-7, 6-1, 10-8.
Christine Zalameda dropped a close 6-3, 6-4 match to Anna Peterson at #2 singles.
Virginia Wesleyan defeated SVU last year 5-4 in Virginia Beach on March 13th; it was each team's last contest of the shortened 2019-'20 season.
