Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's soccer team defeated the Maroons of Roanoke College 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Birdsong Field in Virginia Beach, VA. The Marlins move to 1-1-0 while the Maroons are 0-1-1.
GAME INFORMATION
The first fifteen minutes of the match saw an aggressive Roanoke team control a majority of the possession time as the Maroons got off six shots with four being saved by freshman keeper
Rachel Quigley. Just before the 16th minute of play, the Marlins got a good offensive look and
Mia Meinhardt scored off an assist from
Gracie Mullins to give VWU a 1-0 lead. Roanoke managed to get off four more shots in the first half but none found the back of the net.
The Marlin attack was much more active in the second half as they got off eight shores with six coming on goal though none of the opportunities found the net. VWU's defense held the Maroons to five shots, three of which came on goal, and ran out the clock to win one-nil.
VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by
Mia Meinhardt with the lone goal. Meinhardt,
Adrianna Gunther, and
Kennedi Anders each got two shots off in the game.
Rachel Quigley (W: 1-0) played all 90 minutes in goal making eight saves.
ROANOKE LEADERS
The Maroons were led by Eliza Ryan, Morgan O'Neill, and Tessa Walsh with three shots each. Taylor Gallick (L: 0-1-1) also played. 90 minutes between the pipes giving up one goal while making six saves.

The Marlins return to action on next Sunday, March 7, when VWU travels to Hampden-Sydney, VA, to take on the Wasps of Emory & Henry College in a neutral site contest.
