VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia – The Virginia Wesleyan University women's swim team defeated the Vixens of Sweet Briar on senior day in Virginia Beach, VA on Saturday morning. The Marlins won six of the 14 events and edged out the Vixens 117-108.
INSIDE THE MEET
Virginia Wesleyan won six of the 14 events in the dual against Sweet Briar. VWU claimed the top spot in the 400 Yd Medley Relay, 200 Yd freestyle, 100 Yd backstroke, 100 Yd breaststroke, 200 Yd backstroke, and the 500 Yd freestyle.
The meet started off with VWU winning the 400 Yd medley relay finishing in 4:50.02 nearly a full minute ahead of the Vixens of SBC. Sweet Briar won the 1650 yd freestyle as Kass Carpenter set a pool record with her time of 20:43.79.
Kiera Doyle edged out Sweet Briar in the 200 Yd freestyle finishing in 2:19.32 three seconds faster than Elizabeth Sanford (SBC) who came in with a time of 2:22.67.
Chloe Dewberry followed with a two-second win in the 100 Yd backstroke finishing in 1:07.53.
Dana Smith claimed another first-place finish for the Marlins in the 100 Yd breaststroke (1:18.16). Smith was followed by teammates Sam Vos (1:20.70) and
Kara Young (1:28.96).
Sweet Briar won the next three events in the 200 Yd freestyle, 50 Yd free, and the 100 Yd free. Dewberry pulled in another win for VWU in the 200 Yd backstroke, but the Vixens claimed the win in the 200 Yd breaststroke.
Kiera Doyle won the 500 Yd free with a time of 6:18.10 ahead of teammates
Emily Lewis and
Taylor Morich. SBC closed out the meet with wins in the 100 Yd butterfly, 200 Yd IM and the 400 Yd freestyle relay.
