Women's Basketball falls at Ferrum 76-64

Box Score FERRUM, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team fell to the Panthers of Ferrum College 76-64 on Saturday afternoon at the Swartz Gym in Ferrum, VA.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The Marlins got on the board first taking an early 4-0 lead. Ferrum responded with a 9-0 run taking a 9-4 lead before Imani Felton hit a three pointer to pull the Marlins within two, 9-7. The Panthers took a six point lead, 15-9, with 2:22 remaining in the opening quarter, but the Marlins closed out the opening 10 minutes with a 10-0 rally taking a 19-15 lead into the second quarter. 

FC scored 14 straight points to start the second quarter going up by ten, 29-19, with 4:26 before the halftime break. VWU chipped away at the FC lead to pull within five points, 35-30, at the buzzer. 

The Marlins slowly continued to cut down the Panthers lead throughout the third quarter and took a one-point advantage, 44-43, with 3:21 remaining in the third period. The teams traded baskets the remainder of the third and found themselves evened up at 52 all heading into the final 10 minute period. 

Ferrum scored eight points right out of the gate going up 60-52 and held that lead until S'Zahria Jones scored with 5:34 remaining in the game. The Marlins tried to battle back but the Panther opened up a 10-point lead that VWU could not overcome as they fell 76-64 to FC. 

VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by Celeste Rucker with 16 points and nine rebounds. Jessica Jennings added nine points while Adaje Williams, S'Zahria Jones, and Jada Norman all collected eight points apiece to round out the leading VWU scorers.

FERRUM LEADERS
The Panthers were led by Kayla Cabiness with 23 points and a team high eight rebounds. Jacy Marvin tallied 19 points, while Aisha Martin added 15 and Cameron Hawkins put up 11. 

UP NEXT
The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, December 8, when the Marlins continue their road trip heading to Salem, VA to face Hollins University. Tip off is set for 7 PM.
