Women's Basketball falls to Bridgewater on ODAC opener

Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team fell to the Eagles of Bridgewater College 77=54 on Wednesday evening at TowneBank Arena in Virginia Beach, VA.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The first score of the came came nearly two minutes into the action on a free throw by Imani Felton putting VWU on the board first. The Eagles responded with a basket to take a 2-1 lead but the Marlins scored five points, a jumper by Adaje Williams and a three from Felton, to give the ome team a 6-2 lead with 6:42 on the clock. Bridgewater scored back to back buckets knotting the score at six all. VWU went ahead by five points only to have their lead erased as BC tied the score again at 11 all and closed out the first quarter with a 17-11 lead following an 11-0 rally to end the quarter.

Bridgewater carried their momentum from the end of the first into the second quarter taking a 21-16 lead with 8:20 on the clock. A pair of free throws by S'Zahria Jones pulled VWU within three points, 21-18, but that was the closest the Marlins got the remainder of the quarter as Bridgewater scored 20 points to Virginia Wesleyan's nine in the final eight minutes before halftime. 

After returning to the court from the halftime break the Marlins managed to score just five points in the third quarter while the Eagles posted 21, taking a 62-32 into the final quarter. Virginia Wesleyan outscored Bridgewater in the fourth quarter scoring 22 points to the Eagles 15, but the lead was too great for the marlins to overcome as they fell 77-54. 

VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by Jessica Jennings with 16 points as the only VWU player in double figures. Bianca Atkinson led the team with seen rebounds and eight points, second behind Jennings. 

BRIDGEWATER LEADERS
The Eagles were led by Jaden Alsberry with 16 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double. Erika Nettles added 15 points while Julia Williams contributed 13.

The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 20 when they host the 2021 TowneBank Tipoff Tournament in TowneBank Arena.
