Women's Soccer wins ODAC regular season title with a 1-1 draw at Bridgewater

Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team claimed the regular season ODAC title after drawing against Bridgewater 1-1 in the regular season finale. The Marlins will enter the ODAC tournament, which begins on Tuesday, as the No. 1 seed with home field advantage throughout the tournament.

FIRST HALF
  • Neither team managed to find a goal in the opening half of play despite the Marlins getting off seven shots and the Eagles six. 
SECOND HALF
  • Bridgewater found the first goal of the match just over a minute into the second half taking the 1-0 lead. 
  • Thirty minutes passed by before another goal was scored and this one was in favor of the Marlins as Adrianna Gunther knotted the score at one goal each. 
  • Neither team scored the go ahead goal in the final 13 minutes of action and the teams went into overtime. 
OVERTIME 
  • The Marlins out shot the Eagles four to zero in the first overtime period but still no luck finding the net.
  • Another ten minutes came and went and the score still sat tied at 1-1 as the teams ended the match in a draw with the Marlins claiming sole ownership of first place in the ODAC standings.
KEY STATS
  • Adrianna Gunther took only two shots in the match but one was good for the game tying goal.
  • Carleigh Van Reenen led the team with eight shots.
  • Amruta Karkare collected the win in net playing all 110 minutes making one save and allowing one goal.
UP NEXT
The Marlins head into the ODAC tournament as the number one seed and have earned home field advantage throughout the tournament. VWU will host the eighth seeded Roanoke College Maroons on Tuesday afternoon. Game time is to be determine.
