McClenahan's golden goal against Randolph-Macon keeps Marlins atop ODAC standings

Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - Breacain McClenahan's golden goal in the 100th minute of action helped push the Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team to victory 3-2 against the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday evening at Foster Field in Virginia Beach, VA.

FIRST HALF
  • The Marlins found the back of the net first in the sixth minute as Kayln Byrd corralled her own rebound off the crossbar to put the ball into a virtually empty net.
  • Randolph-Macon found an equalizer in the 12th minute as Maddie Bauman curved a ball beautifully into the net past the Marlin keeper.
  • About 20 minutes later the Marlins struck again this time off a Kennedi Anders free kick goal that hit off the RMC wall and bounced over the keeper into the back of the goal. 
  • The final ten minutes saw promising shots from both teams but both keepers made some great plays to keep the score at 2-1 in favor of Virginia Wesleyan heading into halftime.  
SECOND HALF
  • Randolph-Macon again knotted the score in the 63rd minute as Olivia Owens headed a loose ball into the net putting the score at two goals apiece. 
  • Neither team was able to connect again during regulation despite several exciting shot attempts forcing the teams into overtime. 
OVERTIME 
  • The Marlins out shot the Yellow Jackets four to two in the first overtime period but still no luck finding the net.
  • Magic happened for Virginia Wesleyan in the 100th minute as Breacain McClenahan corralled a pass from Adrianna Gunther to find the back of the net giving the Marlins the 3-2 golden goal overtime win.
KEY STATS UP NEXT
The Marlins wrap up the regular season on Saturday as they travel up to Bridgewater, VA, for an ODAC showdown against the Eagles of Bridgewater College. VWU and BC kick off at 3:30 PM to determine the the final rankings in the ODAC standings as teams head into the ODAC tournament next Tuesday.
