Women's Basketball falls on the road at Salisbury

Box Score SALISBURY, Maryland - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team fell to the Sea Gulls of Salisbury University 75-41 on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action. The Marlins move to 0-3 while the Sea Gulls are now 2-0 on the season.

INSIDE THE SCORE
The game began with Salisbury scoring 10 points before Virginia Wesleyan found their first points of the game on a jumper by Danielle Lehner at the 6:24 mark. Alexis Lomax connected a three as the clock hit five minutes remaining that put the score at 11-5 in favor of SU. Sabrina Jones closed out the opening quarter with a three-point play the old fashioned way with a made layup and a free throw as the score sat at 16-8 after 10 minutes of action.

Salisbury took off in the second quarter out scoring the Marlins 22-4 taking a 38-12 lead into the halftime break. The Sea Gulls took advantage of the 13 VWU turnovers in the quarter.

The third quarter saw the Sea Gulls open a 30-point lead halfway through the ten minute period as the score reached 46-16. After the end of 30 minutes of action Salisbury led 58-24 as the teams headed into the last 10 minutes of play.

The two squads scored the same amount of points in the fourth quarter at 17 points a piece, however the Sea Gulls lead was too great for the Marlins to overcome and in the end Salisbury won 75-41.

VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by S'Zahria Jones with 10 points. Alexis Lomax was close behind with eight points and Sabrina Jones added seven points of her own. Adaje Williams led the rebounding game with 10 boards to go along with six points.

SALISBURY LEADERS
The Sea Gulls were led by Lauren Fortescue with 16 points and five assists. Kylie Webb and Kolby Brown both added eight points a piece while Kaylee Otlowski led the Sea Gulls with nine rebounds.

UP NEXT
The Virginia Wesleyan Marlins will continue their series of away games with a road trip back up to Maryland to take on the Seahawks of Saint Mary's College of Maryland on Tuesday, February 2. The contest will be the second time this season the two squads have faced each other and tip-off time is set for 6 PM in St. Mary's City, MD.
