Salisbury, MD - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's tennis team fell to #8 Salisbury University and Goucher College on Saturday in a season-opening regional doubleheader. In both contests, the Marlins fell by a score of 7-2. VWU moves to 0-2 while both Salisbury and Goucher improve to 1-0 on the young season.

• The Malins opened the match by dropping all three doubles sets.

• At #1 doubles the VWU team of Timothy Tep and Nick Gunther fell to Salisbury's Alex Angradi and Ian Siew, 8-4. Angradi and Siew are currently the #3 doubles team in the SA region.

• In singles, Marlin Freshman Henry West earned his first dual match singles win when he defeated Salisbury's Andrew Klichenstein, 6-3, 6-2 at #6 singles.

• Junior Anthony Wilson picked up a win at #3 singles when his opponent retired due to injury.

• Salisbury defeated the Marlins 9-0 during the 2019 season

• Goucher defeated the Marlins 9-0 in 2018 while the Marlins returned the favor in 2019 with a 5-4 win over the Gophers.

• Today the Gophers jumped out to a 3-0 lead sweeping all 3 doubles positions, in 2019 VWU took 2 of 3 doubles matches.

• VWU's #1 team of Timothy Tep and Nick Gunther fell short dropping their match 8-5.

• At #3 doubles, Marlins Anthony Wilson and Andreas Combos lost a close 8-5 contest.  

• At #2 doubles, VWU's Mitch Perry and Henry West fell behind 7-0 before reeling off 2 consecutive games before dropping set 8-2.

• Mitch Perry earned his first dual singles win of the season by defeating Michael Herman 6-1, 6-3 at #2 singles.

• Nick Gunther also claimed his first dual singles win of the year by holding off Omoseasan Adebamgbe 6-4, 7-6 at #5.

• The Marlins came up short at #3 and #6 singles, losing each match in 3 sets.
