RALEIGH, North Carolina - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's tennis defeated the Avenging Angels of Meredith College 9-0 in the spring season opener in Raleigh, NC. VWU moves to 1-0 on the season while Meredith falls to 0-1.

• The Marlins kicked things off in doubles action going 3-0 against the Avenging Angels. 
• Aubree Johnson/Alexa Brewster in the No. 3 spot finished their doubles match first defeating their opponents 8-2. 
• The No. 1 duo of Makayla Velic/Audrey Bally wrapped up their match second winning 8-4 while Christine Zalameda/Anna Rogers rounded out the doubles round with an 8-6 win to clink all three points.
• Virginia Wesleyan continued in the singles round to sweep the competition winning all six matches for the clean sweep 9-0 victory. 
• The middle of the lineup finished first with Alexa Brewster in the No. 4 spot winning 6-0, 6-0 over her opponent.
• Makayla Velic and Audrey Baily, No. 3 and 2 respectively in the lineup, won their matches 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-3 clinching the match win for VWU. 
• Lyric Hinton, No. 6, finished fourth with a 6-3, 6-1 win followed by the No. 1 player Christine Zalameda who knocked off her foe 6-1, 6-4.
• Anna Rogers closed the match with a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 5 completing the shutout.
