Box Score ASHLAND, Virginia - The VWU women's basketball fell to the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College 66-48 on Tuesday evening in midweek ODAC competition in Ashland, Va. The Marlins move to 5-14 overall and 3-9 in ODAC competition, while the Yellow Jackets are now 9-8 and 8-4.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The game began with the Yellow Jackets scoring six points before Isis Moore got the Marlins on the board with a layup four minutes into the game. RMC went on a 7-5 run holding on to a six-point lead, 13-7, but VWU climbed back to tie the score at 13 all following a 6-0 run by the Marlins as the first quarter came to a close.
A layup by Jessica Jennings to start the second quarter gave the Marlins their first lead of the game at 15-13 but the Yellow Jackets went on a 20-4 run through the remainder of the second quarter to lead 33-19 at halftime.
The third quarter began with RMC going on a 7-0 run taking a 40-19 lead two minutes into the action. A layup by Sabrina Jones got the ball rolling for the Marlins who went on a 10-5 run closing the gap to 16 points, 45-29 by the 4:43 mark. Both teams scored eight more points the remainder of the quarter to enter the final ten minutes with the Yellow Jackets leading 53-37.
Virginia Wesleyan scored four points to start the fourth pulling within 12 points of Randolph-Macon who led 53-41. The Yellow Jackets scored eight unanswered points going ahead 61-41 by the six-minute mark. VWU put seven more points on the board but were unable to overcome the lead held by RMC who went on to win 66-48.
VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
The Marlins were led by Sabrina Jones with 13 points while Jessica Jennings was the only other Marlin in double-digits with 10 points. Elizabeth Vincent tallied a team-high 12 rebounds while adding eight points.
RANDOLPH-MACON LEADERS
The Yellow Jackets were led by Kelly Williams with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds. Becca Arrington and Charlotte Woods each scored double-figures with 13 and 11 points respectively.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the second quarter when the Yellow Jackets outscored the Marlins 20-6.
