BRIDGEWATER, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's swim team defeated the Eagles of Bridgewater College on Saturday in the regular-season finale in Bridgewater, Virginia. The Marlins scored 79 points to the Eagles 72.

The meet was the last meet of the 2019-2020 regular season. VWU will next compete at the ODAC Championships from February 6-9.
INSIDE THE MEET
Virginia Wesleyan men won six of the eleven events and finished second or third in the others. The meet started off strong with the men's 200M medley relay of Tyler Strong, Kyle Woolf, Caleb Royce, and Patrick McKneely finishing a full eight seconds faster than their opponents with a time of 2:02.08. In the men's 800M freestyle, Max Currens finished with a time of 10:30.95 which was 16 seconds faster than his Bridgewater competitor. The Marlins took a one-two finish in the 200M freestyle with Strong and McKneely claiming times of 2:15.31 and 2:26.36 respectively.
Royce and Currens provided VWU with another one-two finish this time in the 50M freestyle finishing with times of 25.67 and 27.61. Royce took first in the 100M butterfly edging out his opponent by one one-hundredth of a second as Royce finished in 1:04.87 while Bridgewater's Ben Dillon finished in 1:04.88. Strong gave the Marlins their last event win as he finished first in the 100M backstroke with a time of 1:06.57, a full six seconds faster than his opponent.
Woolf took second in the 100M free (1:05.63) and the 100M breaststroke (1:22.22) while Currens (5:03.93) and McKneely (5:30.91) finished second and third in the 400M freestyle.

The Marlins are back in action on February 6 when they travel to Greensboro, N.C., to compete in the 2020 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Guilford College.
