Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team defeated the Mustangs of Mid-Atlantic Christian University on Tuesday evening at the Jane P. Batten Student Center in Virginia Beach, Va. VWU moves to 4-11 overall while MACU falls to 4-7.
INSIDE THE SCORE
Virginia Wesleyan got out to an early lead and never looked back as they only allowed two first-half points while scoring 40 of their own, 20 points in both the first and second quarters, to lead 40-2 at halftime. Eight turnovers by the Mustangs contributed to the Marlins' large first-half lead. The Marlins lead was too large for the Mustangs to overcome in the second half despite outscoring VWU in the fourth quarter 14-8 as Virginia Wesleyan won 66-17.
MACU had a total of 20 turnovers while VWU had 12 steals that led to 18 points of turnovers. VWU's largest lead of the game came with 46 seconds remaining in the third quarter with a 55-point lead over the Mustangs.
VIRGINIA WESLEYAN LEADERS
Virginia Wesleyan was led by Jessica Jennings with 17 points and a team-high five assists. Sabrina Jones joined Jennings in double-digits with 10 points as well as recording 11 rebounds for a double-double. Sierra Coleman had a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with her six points. All twelve Marlins that saw game time scored at lead two points.
MID-ATLANTIC CHRISTIAN LEADERS
The Mustangs were led by Alead Riles with six points and tallied seven rebounds. Judea Edmonds and Sarita Smith each collected five points apiece. Edmonds led the Mustangs with nine rebounds.
