Women's Swimming Win Over Ferrum On Senior Day

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's swim team defeated the Panthers of Ferrum College 129 - 41 at the Natatorium in the Jane P. Batten Student Center in Virginia Beach, Va. Senior Amanda Waller was honored prior to the meet as the lone senior on the women's swim team. 

MEET INFORMATION
The meet was the last home meet for the Marlins of the 2019-2020 season. VWU has just one more regular-season meet, Jan. 25 at Bridgewater, before competing in the ODAC Championships from February 6-9.

RESULTS

INSIDE THE MEET
Virginia Wesleyan won 10 of the 11 events in the meet dropping just the Women's 500 Yard Freestyle race to the Ferrum Panthers. VWU set new school records in the 400Y medley relay, 200Y freestyle, 200Y butterfly, and the 200Y breaststroke. 

Chloe Dewberry, Dana Smith, Lizzy Ross, and Kiersten Lee got the day started with a record-breaking performance in the 400 medley relay finishing with a time of 4:25.95 shaving nearly three seconds off the previous record. Ross later broke her second record of the day in the 200 freestyle finishing in 2:10.15 beating the old time of 2:11.35.

Hannah Carmona made history swimming the first 200-yard butterfly in program history finishing with a time of 3:37.06. Smith also broke a second record on the day in the 200-yard breaststroke with her time of 2:47.78.

UP NEXT
The Marlins are back in the pool on January 25 when they travel to Bridgewater, Va., to compete against the Bridgewater Eagles and the Hollins Green.
