Marlins Take Two on Opening Day of Gallaudet Tournament

Washington, D.C.- The Virginia Wesleyan University volleyball team opened up its weekend with a pair of wins at the Gallaudet Women's Volleyball Tournament. The squad defeated both St. Vincent and Gallaudet in straight sets on day one of the tournament.  With the pair of wins the Marlins improve to 6-0 on the young season.
 
Match 1: VWU-3 SV-0 (25-16, 25-11, 25-17) 
 
The Marlins rarely played from behind on the day as they found themselves up in every set. Amber Matalus and Lauren Topper both had solid performances with 7 kills each. 
 
Match 2: VWU-3 Gallaudet-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-14) 
 
The Marlins used match one's momentum to propel them to another victory in their second contest against host Gallaudet. Lauren Topper and Greta Coss both racked up 11 kills. Alyssa Taylor had 11 digs to help defensive side of things. 
 
Volleyball returns to action Saturday as the team squares off against Shenandoah and Washington College in day two of the tournament.  The Marlins will take on Shenandoah at noon followed by a 2 P.M. match against Washington College.
