Smith, Nash Selected as AVCA All-Americans

For the first time in program history, the Virginia Wesleyan University women's volleyball team has two members named to the AVCA All-American. Hannah Smith and Niya Nash were named AVCA Honorable Mention All-Americans. 

Hannah Smith – Outside Hitter
Outside hitter Hannah Smith was named the 2025 ODAC Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference, First Team All-Region, and for the second time in her career was named AVCA Honorable Mention All-American, following one of the most complete seasons in the nation. Smith led the Marlins with 460 kills and an impressive 3.93 kills per set, while hitting .276 across 1,093 total attacks. Her all-around impact was unmatched. Smith delivered 80 service aces (0.68 per set), posted 447 digs (3.82 per set), and contributed 45 total blocks, compiling 564 points, the most among all VWU players. Her scoring ability, defensive output, and presence elevated the Marlins throughout their undefeated regular-season conference run. In the record books, she currently sits second in program history in Career kills wth 1,299. She broke her own single-match record for most kills in a game with 34 on Nov. 13th against W&L in the ODAC Championship Tournament.

Niya Nash – Setter
Sophomore setter Niya Nash orchestrated one of the most productive offenses in Division III and was named First Team All-Conference, First Team All-Region, and now AVCA Honorable Mention All-American. Nash delivered an outstanding 1,234 assists, averaging 10.55 assists per set, to guide the Marlins to a team average of 12.73 assists per set and a collective .255 hitting percentage. She also contributed 51 aces, 303 digs, and 29 total blocks, underscoring her value as a true all-around setter. She broke two school records this season for the most assists in a single-season and for the most assists in a single-match (65).
