The ninth-ranked Virginia Wesleyan women's volleyball team has been selected to host the NCAA Tournament regional for the first time in program history, as announced by the association Monday. This marks back-to-back seasons that the Marlins have made the NCAA Tournament. The eight-team regional includes Virginia Wesleyan, John Jay, Berry, Washington & Lee, Christopher Newport, Cortland, Juniata, and Grove City. With the games to be played from November 20th-22nd inside the TowneBank Arena in the Jane P. Batten Student Center.
The Marlins had a historic 31-2 season, with
Hannah Smith being named ODAC Player of the Year and first-team All-Conference. This year, she helped the Marlins go undefeated in conference play for the second time in program history. She broke the single-match record for the most kills in a game and teammate
Niya Nash broke two school records this season, breaking the single-season assist record with 1,200 assists and the single-match assist record with 65.
Christopher Newport vs. Cortland will open the Regional on Thursday, November 20th at 11:30 AM, followed by Juniata vs. Grove City at 2 PM, Washington & Lee vs. Berry at 4:30 PM, and Virginia Wesleyan will battle John Jay to conclude the first day at 7 PM.
