Field Hockey's Comeback Effort Falls Short at Widener

Box Score

CHESTER, Pa. - The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team dropped its game, 3-1, to Widener University Saturday afternoon on the road. With the loss, the Marlins move to 2-3 on the season while the Pride improve to 5-0.

After Widener opened up with a goal in the first minute, they were able to double their lead going into halftime. The Marlins split the Pride deficit courtesy of the team's top goal scorer, Julie Fassl. Fassl collected a pass from Hunter Majewski and was able to get it by the opposing keeper giving the visiting squad a 1-0 lead with just 20 minutes to go in regulation. Widener continued to press though and would eventually take the win.

Maura Bridges had a solid outing in goal, stopping seven Pride shots on the day.

Field hockey returns to action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday as the team concludes its road trip with an away tilt at Goucher athletics.
