Women's Basketball Tamed By Captains at Home

Box Score

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team fell, 98-56, to Christopher Newport University Sunday afternoon at the TowneBank Cross Bay Rivalry. With the loss, the Marlins slide to 2-8 on the year while the Captains improve to 8-3.

The Marlins actually pulled ahead first using a Jessica Jennings 3-pointer to take an early lead but CNU went on a 13-0 scoring run to gain a sizeable lead. The Marlins would find themselves down 10 (22-12) after one quarter of play. The Captains continued to increase their lead as they scored the first eight points of the second half. That deficit would remain throughout the game as the Marlins took the loss to their Cross Bay Rivals.

Jennings finished with a team-high 19 points, which included a pair of made threes. Latroya Gravely and Danielle Lehner would also chip in on the offense as each player registered nine points.

Women's basketball returns to action again after the New Year as the team travels to Emory & Henry for a 4 p.m. battle on January 2nd.
