Two Records Broken as Marlins Earn a Win at Lynchburg Quad

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's swimming team picked up one win at the Lynchburg Quad meet on Saturday, taking down Southern Virginia University 108-94. The team would fall to Hampden-Sydney 178-63 as well as Lynchburg 202-37.

In just his second meet of his career, Caleb Royce was able to enter the record books in the 100-yard fly. The sophomore timed a 59.66, which tied Tyler Strong as Virginia Wesleyan's best finish. The mark was also good enough to earn him fourth place.

Tyler Strong had a solid outing as well as he picked up a pair of third place finishes. Strong was just two seconds off his PR in the 100yd back as he posted a 59.70 and would be just one second off his PR in the 200yd back as he timed a 2:08.67.

The combination of Strong, Royce, Kyle Woolf and Max Currens also helped set a new benchmark in the 400yd medley relay. The team touched the wall in 4:00.61, shaving nearly two seconds off the record that was posted last season.

Men's swimming returns to the pool at 1 p.m. on Saturday as the team hosts Salisbury University for a dual meet.
