Women's Soccer Declaws Panthers on the Road

FERRUM, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's soccer team defeated Ferrum, 3-1, Saturday evening on the road. With the victory, the Marlins improve to 9-3-3 on the season and 5-2-1- in conference play. Ferrum slid to 8-6-2 (4-3-1 ODAC).

The Marlins got off to a quick start as they netted the game's first goal just 7:11 in. Mia Meinhardt lit the lamp as she finished a Camryn Terry pass for her third goal of the season. Terry then finished one herself at the 33:10 mark and the Marlins took a 2-0 lead into the half. The team then extended that lead to 3-0 just three minutes into the second stanza as Meinhardt notched her second of the day off a Reina Araujo pass. Ferrum attempted a comeback as they nixed the shutout in the 66th minute but the Marlin defense suppressed any more chances.

Amruta Karkare was credited with the win as she served the first 59 minutes between the pipes while Tristen Roberts came in to close things out.

Women's soccer will be back in action again at 6 p.m. on Tuesday as the team hosts Bridgewater in their final home regular season match.
