Field Hockey Flustered By Generals on Senior Day

Box Score

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team dropped its bout with Washington and Lee, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Birdsong Field. With the result, the Marlins move to 4-10 on the season while sliding to 1-3 in conference action.

Washington and Lee controlled much of the first half but the Marlins did find an opportunity with Julie Fassl. The junior found herself in on net with a defender on her back before she fired a shot only to have it knocked away by the General goalie. The visiting team would end up scoring one to take the 1-0 lead into halftime. The Marlins were backed into their defensive third for most of the second half as well, eventually falling to their ODAC foe.

Maura Bridges played all 60 minutes in goal for the home team, stopping seven General shots.

Field hockey returns to action again at 5 p.m. on Thursday as the team welcomes Eastern Mennonite to Virginia Beach, Va.
