Field Hockey Drops Road Bout to Nationally-Ranked Hornets

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team fell, 7-1, to No. 19 Lynchburg Wednesday evening on the road. With the result, the Marlins move to 4-9 on the season while going to 1-2 in conference play. Lynchburg moves to 11-3 on the season and remain unbeaten in the ODAC (4-0).

The nationally-ranked Hornets piled things in right from the beginning scoring four unanswered through the first half. They added a pair more in the third, but the Marlins were able to get one back early in the second. Haille Hatter created the entire goal herself as she stole a pass in the offensive zone. She then found herself one-on-one with the Lynchburg netminder before sliding one into the lower left side. The thoughts of any comeback fled though as the Hornets sealed up the win with another nine minutes later.

Goalie duties were split on the day with Maura Bridges stopping five shots through he first 36:24. MeMe Dawson relieved her after that, stopping two through the rest of regulation. Hunter Majewski was also credited with a defensive save.

Field hockey returns to action again at 1 p.m. on Saturday as the Marlins host Washington and Lee for Senior Day.
