Quick Start Leads to Field Hockey Win Over Ferrum

Box Score

FERRUM, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team shut out Ferrum, 4-0, Friday evening on the road. With the victory, the Marlins improve to 4-8 on the season and 1-1 in conference action. Ferrum falls to 2-10 on the year (0-3 ODAC).

It took nearly no time at all for the game's first goal as the Marlins found the back of the cage just 34 seconds in. Cori Jackson was credited with the unassisted goal, her third of the season. It was then Julie Fassl who spearheaded the offense as she piled in another two goals across the next five minutes.

Scoring would pause for the Marlins for a bit, but early in the fourth quarter Fassl was able to find room behind the keeper one more time to earn the hat trick.

The Marlin offense dominated the Panthers, outshooting them 35-3 and earning 17 more penalty corners (19-2) as well. Maura Bridges got the win but MeMe Dawson saw the only action as she blocked the sole Panther shot-on-goal.

Field hockey returns to action as the team squares off against Lynchburg in a 7 p.m. road contest
