Field Hockey Drops Road Battle to Nationally-Ranked Captains

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey fell, 5-1, to No. 12 Christopher Newport University Tuesday evening on the road. With the result, the Marlins move to 3-6 on the year while the Captains improve to 8-2.

The first half of the game, the Marlins found themselves in their own defensive third as the Captains netted five goals. Virginia Wesleyan stood tall in the second half though, as they outscored their opponent 1-0. The Marlin goal came by way of Haille Hatter, who finished a penalty corner set play in front of the net.

Maura Bridges played an excellent game in goal for the Marlins, turning aside a career-high 19 saves on the evening.

Field hockey will return to action again at 1 p.m. on Saturday as the team hosts Bridgewater for homecoming.
