NORFOLK, Va. - The seventh-seeded Virginia Wesleyan University women's tennis team fell, 5-0, to the top-seeded Washington and Lee in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) title match Sunday morning at the Folkes Stevens Indoor Tennis Center on the campus of Old Dominion University. This was the first time since 2009 the squad has made it to the title game.
The Marlins battled tough throughout the doubles play forcing several deuces. At second doubles, Katie Staman and Kellen Phillips pursued some long rallies, some of which brought the squad within a point of capturng a game, but were just overmatched. The Generals would snag all three doubles points.
Washington and Lee's success spilled over to singles as they took the first two singles matches, causing an early end as the match was to be played to a decision.
Women's tennis finishes out its year with a record of of 13-9, accruing 11 more wins than last season.
