Virginia Beach, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University women's tennis team improved to 7-3 on the season with a 9-0 win over Frostburg State on Thursday evening at the Everett Tennis Center. 
The Marlins started the match by sweeping all six singles courts.  Singles were played first due to the match time being pushed back from 3:30 to 5 PM.  At #5 singles senior Taylor Witherspoon (Fairfax, VA) took down Sophia Staggers 6-1, 6-0 while at #6 junior Jacklyn Cheely (Chesterfield, VA) defeated Frostburg's Elizabeth Mott 6-1, 6-1.
In Doubles, sophomore Aubree Johnson (Norfolk, VA) and freshman Courtney Simmons (Reevesville, SC) closed out an 8-4 decision over Sammi Turner and Elizabeth Mott.  The Marlins were also able to capture #1 and #2 doubles both with 8-3 scores.
With the 9-0 win the Marlins successfully avenged a 2017 5-2 loss to the Bobcats.  Virginia Wesleyan University improves to 7-3 on the season while Frostburg falls to 3-4.  Next up for the Marlins will be a match vs. Union College scheduled for Sunday on Hilton Head, SC.   Match time is set for 1:30  at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Club.
