Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team fell to Guilford, 62-49, Saturday afternoon in the final game of the regular season. The Marlins move to 12-13 on the year (9-7 ODAC).
The Marlins found themselves down early but stayed within striking distance throughout the entire first half. Going down by as much as 10, VWU found itself down by just one possession, 23-20, at the halftime intermission.
To start the third period, the Quakers would go on a 14-4 run over the first eight minutes to give them a healthy lead. Va. Wesleyan trekked back though, chipping away until they tied it up at 46-46 with just 3:47 left in regulation. Shots just were not falling for the Marlins though as the QUakers pulled away over the last three minutes.
VWU had a trio of scorers reach double-digits on the evening, led by Jayla Harris and NiAsia Caldwell who each recorded 15. Raya Berkley was the other offensive threat, tacking on 14 of her own.
Women's basketball will now wait for all conference action to conclude to figure out where they will be seeded for the upcoming ODAC Championship.
