Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team dropped its contest with Bridgewater, 3-1, Wednesday evening on the road. With the loss, the Marlins slide to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play. Bridgewater moves to 8-6 on the season (4-2 ODAC).
It was the Marlins who struck first, putting a tally on the board just 1:41 into the contest. Ashley Parker got the play going, driving down the goal line to the goalie's left. The senior then sent a ball across the goal mouth where Julie Fassl was there to tip it in with her stick. The lead would not hold though as the Eagles tagged VWU for three goals before the periods end. The score would hold, giving the Marlins just their second conference loss of the year.
Skye Swain picked up another double-digit save performance, stopping 10 Eagle shots on the day.
Field hockey returns to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday as the squad squares off against ODAC-foe Washington and Lee on the road.
